Description
This is an EXCELLENT condition, vintage ORIGINAL 16mm B&W sound movie print of the entertaining 1940 comedy-adventure feature length motion picture classic titled... "TORRID ZONE" Director: William KeighleyTorrid Zone star James Cagney once described the film as "The Front Page among the bananas." Indeed, the screenplay diligently follows the Front Page plot device of a tough boss (Pat O'Brien) pulling every underhanded trick in the book to keep his top man (Cagney) from quitting. This time the setting is a Central American plantation owned by O'Brien, which supervisor Cagney would dearly love to leave behind. Complicating the plot is a nightclub singer (Anne Sheridan) over whom O'Brien and Tracy do battle; a bored married woman (Helen Vinson) with eyes for Cagney; and a gang of Latino bandits, led by George Tobias (providing comic relief). What Torrid Zone lacked in originality it made up for in sheer energy with very snappy dialog. This film is an hilarious delight! CAST: James Cagney - Nick Butler Ann Sheridan - Lee Donley Pat O'Brien - Steve Case Andy Devine - Wally Davis Helen Vinson - Gloria Anderson Jerome Cowan - Bob Anderson George Tobias - Rosario La Mata George Reeves - Sancho Banana Company executive Steve Case on a Caribean plantation group tries to convince his former co-worker Nick Butler to take over the plantation No 7. He has also troubles with US night-club singer Lee Donley, whom he wants aboard a ship back to the US, and rebel Rosario. He is able to get Nick to the plantation, but is he able to keep him there or will he leave it in a few days with Gloria, the wife of the former exectutive of No 7, Mr. Anderson ?
