Description
This is a NEAR-MINT condition, ORIGINAL 16mm B&W sound movie print of the exciting 1947 WWII spy-action-thriller feature motion picture classic titled... "13 RUE MADELEINE" Director: Henry HathawayThis film is not only a revealing glimpse into the workings of the O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services) during WW II, but it is also a full-fledged spy thriller. An excellent cast includes James Cagney, Karl Malden, E.G. Marshall, and Red Buttons. Cagney stars as an O.S.S. training officer, bent upon discovering a German traitor within his ranks while at the same time completing highly dangerous espionage assignments. The risks increase when one of his men is murdered from within, and Cagney, convinced he knows who the murdering infiltrator is, vows revenge. Authentic O.S.S. film footage make this film historically significant as well as entertaining.CAST: James Cagney - Bob Sharkey Annabella - Suzanne de Bouchard Roland Belanger - Joseph Richard Conte - Bill O'Connell Frank Latimore - Jeff Lassiter Walter Abel - Charles Gibson Melville Cooper - Pappy Simpson Sam Jaffe - Mayor Galimard A neat World War II espionage thriller, 13 Rue Madeleine benefits from the postwar craze for shooting outside the studio. With Quebec doubling for occupied France, this is a spy movie with a sense of open air. James Cagney plays an OSS agent, training his recruits for an important pre-D-Day mission. When one of them turns out to be a Nazi spy, Cagney must parachute into France himself and straighten things out. Director Henry Hathaway and producer Louis de Rochemont pioneered the docu-drama approach with The House on 92nd Street, and they again use newsreel footage and stentorian narrator here, blended into the fictional story. There are a fistful of suspenseful situations and a gangbusters ending--as well as the typically wired-up Cagney, who is exactly the guy you want on your side if D-Day is hanging in the balance. This is a RARE, LIKE-NEW, GREAT CONTRAST, 1978 EASTMAN B&W ORIGINAL print with sharp focus, top sound and it's mounted on two 1600 foot reels... all ready to run. There is no vinegar smell or warping! The image shown is for illustration only.
